Civil marriages and partnerships are welcomed at Pentillie Castle, and the estate is licensed for these ceremonies in a variety of unique and stunning locations.
The licensed spaces (in which you can legally marry or form a partnership), include the evocative and romantic Victorian bathing hut on the banks of the River Tamar, the Loggia on the South Terrace with far-reaching views across the river to Dartmoor and the wisteria covered Pavilion that used to be the old tennis pavilion! The castle reception rooms are all licensed as well, and include the intimate morning room, and dining room.
The Bathing Hut can seat 60, while the Pavilion and Loggia are both small spaces which open onto large terraces or lawns so can accommodate many more guests. The morning room would suit a very small group of up to 12 guests, while the dining room can accommodate up to 80 in theatre style seating.
If you have decided to legally marry, or form a partnership overseas, or elsewhere, but are keen to host a celebration of your commitment with family and friends at Pentillie, then you are not restricted to licensed spaces. Celebratory ceremonies can happen anywhere you choose – the Lime Avenue, Wisteria Walk, the American Gardens, or the Turkey Oak on the bank of the River Tamar are all spectacular and unique locations. These ceremonies are not legally binding, but can incorporate your personality, your treasured thoughts, readings, poetry, religious texts, family members, blessings from religious elders, and of course your own vows, into the ceremony.
Other ceremonies that can be conducted anywhere on the beautiful Pentillie Estate include naming ceremonies, renewal of vows, handfasting or humanist ceremonies and commitment ceremonies to mention but a few.
You will need to contact the relevant religious leader to discuss your ceremony.
For Church of England ceremonies in one of the local parish churches, please contact Reverend Chris Painter via email or telephone 01822 834 170.
If you’ve booked the Castle for the weekend and are holding your reception here too, there is no charge from Pentillie, however you will need to organise and pay the registrar or celebrants separately. Please find their contact details later on this page.
If you just want to get married at Pentillie, then subject to availability there will be a charge of £950 to include a meeting with Pentillie’s wedding co-ordinator to assist with planning the day, set-up of the room, the use of the room for up to 4 hours (to include decorating time), and the opportunity to have photographs taken in the grounds.
To discuss holding your wedding celebrations at Pentillie please email Lisa or call 01579 350044.
