We have a great selection of food outlets lined up, who will offer their delicious food all day. These vary from Pig and Pallet who rear and cure their own meats, Kernowforno with their wood fired pizzas, to Thyme and Tide with their wood fired fish and vegetarian burgers, and many more!
We welcome guests to browse our variety of local trade stands, which will include food based stands, as well as BBQ orientated stands. These include Pro Q, Trevethan Gin & Kernowfornia.
12 amateur and professional teams will battle it out in our BBQ Competition. There will be four classes, as listed below, and a generous prize for the winner of each, with the addition of The Best Amateur Team, The Spirit of the BBQ and the overall PenGrillie Grand Champion of 2018.
As per previous years, there will be a selection of renowned judges on the panel with a strict judging criteria and scoring system. While the judges take the actual judging of each class very seriously(!), they are also super fridnely and really up for chatting to you all about BBQ. Please do chat to them, and ask questions, and don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for their demonstrations.
Class 3, The Ultimate Chilli, will be judged via a ‘People’s Choice’ vote at 2pm. YOU will have a chance to buy one of 100 judging spoons in aid of Children’s Hospice South West. Spoons will cost £5. Once you have your spoon, (sold in three batches from CHSW stand at 12noon, 1pm and 2pm) make your way to the BBQ pits from 2pm and get your taster – feel free to chat to the teams about their BBQ techniques, and make sure you try all 12 chillies. Once you have made your decision on the winner, pop your judging spoon in your chosen BBQ teams voting pot. Have fun!
Being a family friendly festival there will be plenty to keep the kids entertained, with a dedicated ‘Kids Corner’ filled with lots of fun toys, garden games and crafting activities, a bouncy castle and circus workshops with Higher Beings.
You heard it right, we will be screening both sporting events, so please do not worry about rushing home. You can enjoy both events at PenGrillie!
Dogs are welcome to attend PenGrillie. BarK1 will have many doggy treats on offer, and water bowls will be dotted around the event. Please keep your dog on a lead and clean up after it in the bins provided – please don’t dangle doggy doo bags in the trees or bushes for us to tidy up next week!
