PenGRILLie Sunday 10th July 2016

On Sunday 10th July 2016, we hosted our first ever BBQ Competition and Local Food Festival, PenGRILLie and wow what a ‘grilliant’ day!

Nine teams took to their ‘pit’ to battle it out to be titled the PenGRILLie Pitmaster. There were four classes that were turned in throughout the day, including seafood, chicken, the ‘Ultimate Burger’ and ribs. The teams created a sizzling vibe, with some amazing results – well done all!

There were seven PenGRILLie 2016 awards, with results as follows…

Class 1, Seafood – Joker Smokers
Class 2, Chicken – Riviera Barbecue
Class 3, ‘Ultimate Burger’ – The Bare Grillers
Class 4, Ribs – Pig and Pallet
The Best Amateur Team – Food Fighters
Spirit of the BBQ – Casey and the Condiments
Overall Winner, PenGRILLie Pitmaster – Riviera Barbecue

As well as the BBQ Competition, and demonstrations ranging from slow-cooked brisket to dirty steaks, there was a great spirit throughout the event, with stand holders offering a variety of items ranging from edible plants to venison burgers, yummy! The chili eating competition proved to be a real highlight, with Pentillie’s Ted Coryton taking on the challenge.  Our sponsored Skinner’s and Cornish Orchards bar seemed to be a real hit with all the foodie lovers and there was even an appearance from Betty Stogs herself – what an honour!

Landulph Pre-School hosted the children’s corner, which was jammed packed of activities and crafts. Your donations helped them raise a fantastic £220 for the pre-school! There was also face painting for the young ones…if we can include some of our Pentillie team in that category!

Overall the day was a great success and thank you to everyone involved for your amazing support and enthusiasm. Bring on next year!
