Sir James Tillie is finally sitting comfortably

Hoorah! Sir James is finally sitting comfortably, looking out over his favourite view.

The Mausoleum was completed in April 2013, by builder William and his team, and looks fantastic. Sir James Tillie’s statue underwent a major overhaul – including new nose, hands and feet – at Cliveden Conservation. They did a meticulous job of remoulding Jimmy’s missing parts, and should be incredibly proud of all they have achieved. Take a look at the photos on our Facebook page here.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Natural England and the Country Houses Foundation who so generously funded the restoration work.

My grandmother was a Tillie although the spelling has changed over the years. So it was really good to read all about Pentillie Castle, Sir James’ final resting place and its restoration.
