An October wedding preview is always one of our favourites at Pentillie, the Castle really comes into its own offering warmth and comfort from the slight chill in the air outside. Last Sunday 6th October we held our 2019 autumn preview, once again the weather was kind to us and although it was indeed cooler the sky remained blue for most of the day which was much appreciated by those who wandered down to the Bathing Hut or a little further afield to explore the wider estate decorated by the burnt orange, russet and rich red changing leaves.
We welcomed some 30 couples through the doors, usually on a preview day we see many family members come along too, but this time felt different, most of the couples attended on their own knowing the fun months of summer were over and it was now time to buckle down and plan the wedding day they had dreamed of for so long. They needed a venue and they needed suppliers. With a warm welcome on arrival from the Pentillie team and a glass of fizz and a canapé or two in hand they set off round the Castle. We dot suppliers throughout the reception rooms and let them set up how they wish, there are no long rows on clothed tables with suppliers behind, we want this day to be as relaxed as possible for all of us, after all choosing your suppliers can seem daunting but when you see the right one I think you instantly know if they are the right one for you!
Prior to the preview days we work alongside a florist, stationer and stylist to ensure the castle dining room is set up beautifully showing examples of how table layouts can be arranged and have them decorated as it would be on a wedding day using. Helen from The Velvet Daisy worked with Sarah at Medlin Design to style the tables. Helen creating stunning floral displays using the colours and textures of autumn and adding in some delicate nude roses and pale dahlias to give a real luxurious look. Sarah designed and printed place cards and menus with the same autumnal colours and embellished some of the text with a rose gold foil boosting the overall Autumn Luxe feel! Harpist Ruth Wall provided music for the day, she is incredibly talented at playing such a beautiful looking musical instrument! The gentle sound of the strings cascaded through the house and gave a really relaxing feel throughout the day.
Two cakes artists joined us for the day. Donna Jane Cakes brought a selection of big ‘wow’ cakes in different sizes and styles, much with very intricate detail. Edible Essence created a ‘cake table’ with varying sizes of off white iced cakes and decorated madeleines styled with dusky blue ribbons, candles and muted green foliage. Cake tables have been a popular trend throughout 2019 and we’re sure it will continue into 2020, after all who doesn’t love cake!
For hair and make up Gem Ryder set up in the spencer landing, giving her plenty of space to showcase photos of her transformations! A display of alternative vintage wedding dresses, tweed suits and vintage flower girls dresses were brought by The Wed Hub it was nice to see something a little different – very peaky blinders! Cornwall Registration Services attended the event to give couples useful information on the ‘legal’ side of things and our very own wedding Coordinator Lisa Rockey was on hand to talk to couples more in-depth about weddings at Pentillie.
We had two lovely photographers, both very different in style but both offering lasting memories of your day, photographer Khalile Siddiqui, and photographer and videographer Noah Werth. A big thank you to Noah for taking the photos in this blog. And last but by no means least a thank you to Westcountry Wedding Cars who attended with one of their immaculate cars displayed outside the castle but also offering couples the chance to take a ride and experience the car on a little trip to or from the Bathing Hut.
