A stunning outdoor ceremony in the grounds of Pentillie Castle & Estate, Cornwall. Mel & Louis really embraced the whole Pentillie experience from making every element of their wedding completely bespoke to extending their self catered exclusive hire of the estate.
As soon as we drove into the entrance we all fell in love with it. Louis and I visited another 8 venues after, but nothing compared to Pentillie….

We met…Through mutual friends on a chance night out. I had been suffering with a hip problem so hadn’t been out in a long time and at the last minute one evening, I decided to go to a friend’s house for a drink. About an hour into the evening, a friend of my friend’s boyfriend turned up and brought Louis along with him. We all decided to go out into town, but given my poorly hip, I left early. The next day, Louis asked his friend for my phone number and the rest is history…
First impressions of your husband…Ah, well I wasn’t too keen on his hair, but I remembered him from school – we both went to the same secondary school but was in different year groups. Louis was in the same year as my brother. During the evening that we met, Louis asked me to buy him a drink (the cheek of it!) and so I actually thought he was a little arrogant. Turns out I was totally wrong though!
His first impressions of you…Louis would definitely say that the first thing he noticed about me was my smile. It’s still his favourite thing about me to this day.
What was your proposal? Last year we went on a cruise with both sets of our parents. The cruise had been booked for ages and was the first time we had all been on holiday together. On the second day of cruising, Louis and I ate at a special restaurant on our own. We ended up having a strange ‘wedding’ conversation and at that point, he asked me to marry him and slid a ring across the table. He was so subtle that no-one in the restaurant even noticed. Turns out he had already asked my dad and had given his mum the ring to hide in her suitcase!
What were your wedding theme/colours? Our wedding theme was chosen to compliment the stunning style of our venue and was a kind of vintage elegance, mixing a variety of textures with the old and new. Our colours were grey with a soft purple and plenty of gypsopheila as floral decoration.
How did you choose your bridesmaids/best man and ushers? This was easy, our best men were Louis’ two brothers and the other ushers consisted of my brother and our nephew. My chief bridesmaid was my very best friend from school and my other adult bridesmaid was my brother’s girlfriend, so it really was a family affair. I also had three little bridesmaid’s (my princesses) made up of a niece and two cousins.
We chose our venue because…Wow, how could anyone visit Pentillie Castle and not love it? It was actually the first venue that we visited and I went along with my mum and dad as Louis had to work. As soon as we drove into the entrance we all fell in love with it. Louis met us there later after work and loved it just as much as we did. Louis and I visited another 8 venues after, but nothing compared to Pentillie. The setting was truly beautiful and the feel / atmosphere of the entire place was indescribable, it really was the dream venue.
I chose my dress because….It was the one dress that both mums and my bridesmaid all loved. The mix of satin and lace was perfect and it was really different to anything else I had seen. The uniqueness of the dress also seemed to fit perfectly with our theme and the style of Pentillie Castle.
What food did you choose for your Wedding Breakfast? We chose our wedding breakfast from a variety of menu’s provided from Pentillie. Our starter was a choice of soup, smoked salmon or pheasant terrine; the main course was a choice of pork, brisket of beef or vegetable tart and our dessert was a choice of ‘Pentillie Mess’ or chocolate mousse. Everyone loved the food on the day!
What food did you choose for your Evening Buffet? This was easy – all of my family are Cornish and so we wanted to keep a little bit of Cornwall in the wedding. Pasties were the perfect choice!
Total cost of wedding? Ah, gosh, way too much to write down without causing a physical reaction. It was worth every penny though!
What was your favourite part of the wedding? Both Louis and I loved every single part of the wedding, but for me, the best moment was coming onto the staircase outside and walking down the aisle, seeing the faces of all of our friends, family and ultimately Louis, who looked so handsome! It was the most excited and relaxed I have ever felt!
What was the song for the first dance? Our first dance song was ‘Everything’ by Michael Buble. On the day it was sang by our incredible band, The Motown Pirates. It was the perfect mix of beautiful, meaningful lyrics along with a great beat to groove to! (Louis and I both love to dance!)
What is your top tip for other brides or grooms? Start by finding the perfect venue that you both love and everything else will follow. Discuss everything together and enjoy it!
