“We saw it on Country House Rescue and just loved the place”

Simon & David embraced all that is Pentillie Castle, the country house theme, the Pentillie speciality of Afternoon Tea for their wedding breakfast and their completely personalised celebrations surrounded by family and friends.

Your name and occupation: Simon Elliott-Wiley, Account Executive IT Recruitment

Partner’s name and occupation: David Elliott-Wiley, Teacher

Length of engagement: 2.5 years

Wedding date: 20th February 2016

Ceremony and reception venue: Pentillie Castle

We met on: 20th Feburary 2010

First impressions of your partner: I like him…

Their first impressions of you: He’s ok… ;)

What was your proposal? David did a surprise 30th birthday weekend in Cornwall at my friends pub. He took me to The View restaurant at Whitsand and we walked back through the country lanes and fields to Millbrook and he got down on one knee in a field with a view over Plymouth

Who proposed to who? David asked me!

What were your wedding theme / colours? No real theme, but Cornwall, country house and personal

Did you have flowers? What did you choose? We had button holes and white roses and carnations

How did you choose your best man/woman and ushers? We had 7 best men and women based on our brother and sister and our closest friends

We chose our venue because …It was on the Devon & Cornwall border, (I am from Devon, David is from Cornwall). We saw it on Country House Rescue and just loved the place. We also love the setting and that we had a lot of control over what happened

We chose our wedding outfits because… We wanted tweed to fit into the country theme

What food did you choose for your Wedding Breakfast? Our Wedding breakfast was an Afternoon Tea

What food did you choose for your Evening Buffet? Cornish Pasties

Total cost of wedding (for research purposes only)? £12,500 roughly

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle / saw each other on the day? I felt proud, emotional and surprisingly confident and happy

What was the most important investment for you? Food, drink, clothes, honeymoon? Personally, it was my wedding ring, my shoes and suit. We spent quite a lot on everything else so I wanted to spend money on those.

What was your favourite part of the wedding? Sitting down with all our family and friends to a delicious Afternoon Tea and seeing the wedding cake for the first time

What was the song for the first dance? Magic by Coldplay

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Thailand

What is your top tip for other couples? Do what makes you happy. People will have their opinions but go with what means the most to you. The day went better than we could have ever imagined
