Gingerbread Decorations

Every year, we make this incredibly easy gingerbread recipe and pop the decorations on the Castle’s Christmas tree - but they don’t seem to hang around for long! Why not give them a go at home this festive season…

Ingredients

  • 110g unsalted butter

  • 100g light muscovado sugar

  • 170g golden syrup

  • 400g plain flour, sifted

  • 2 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda, sifted

Icing

  • 1 egg white

  • 55g unrefined icing sugar, sifted

  • A squeeze of lemon juice

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees / Gas Mark 5.

  2. Beat the butter and brown sugar until light and creamy.

  3. Add the golden syrup, sifted flour, ginger and sifted bicarb and mix until you have a smooth dough.

  4. Roll out the dough between sheets of non-stick baking parchment.

  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Cool on racks.

Icing

  1. Mix the egg white and sifted icing sugar together thoroughly with a little squeeze of lemon.

  2. Pipe onto decorations.

  3. Leave to set, and enjoy!
