Mad Dog Mcrea’s one-off River Concert

On Sunday 21st May 2017, we were honoured to be the host of a special river performance from the much-loved Gaelic band, Mad Dog Mcrea. The band were joined by special guest Seth Lakeman, and the two performed from the middle of the River Tamar on Weir Quay Boatyard’s pontoon, to a delightful audience in one of our riverside fields.

We were lucky enough to see Mad Dog Mcrea’s spontaneous trip up river earlier this year, and we all loved it so much, that alongside the other parties, we decided that it needed to be done again. This time we wanted to share the joy of the event with all of our lovely locals and friends, new and old. With less than three weeks before the date, we had confirmation of the event and tickets were quickly sailing away.

Local suppliers rallied around at the short notice to provide food and drink to our constantly growing audience and included World Pizza, Paul Bray & Son, Harding & Scoots and Salty Rims. We also encouraged our guests to bring picnics to enjoy in the countryside setting and early summer sunshine. Signature Blue provided their luxury shepherds hut loos and were offering chairs for kind donations, which have since been donated to Ted and Sarah’s chosen charity, Children’s Hospice South West. We also had the addition of Andy Loos and Kite Vision kindly joined us for the day to film an amazing video of the event – watch it here.

The day was a great success, with 950 members in the audience, all of whom were even more delighted with the surprise guest appearance from folk superstar Seth Lakeman. It was a truly magical Cornish afternoon and an amazing experience for us to host such a unique event. To make it even better, the weather was perfect (with many of us getting burnt!) and the day will remain as an unforgettable Pentillie experience.

Thank you very much to all of those involved with the event, especially to our lovely volunteers who made the possible, to Weir Quay for the use of their pontoon and to the amazing performers who made it such a memorable occasion with their fabulous music.
