Becky & Shane

Becky & Shane

Ceremony and reception venue: The riverside Bathing Hut and Castle Dining Room

We met … On a dating website

How did your proposal happen (when and where)?

Shane was going to propose on Becky’s birthday during a picnic on her favourite beach. He couldn’t wait and put the engagement ring under her pillow instead.

Length of engagement: 4 years

In three words, how did you imagine your wedding day?

  1. Magical

  2. Loving

  3. Relaxed

How did you choose your venue?

We had originally booked another venue. but had to postpone initially due to COVID-19. The venue was then sold and we had to cancel the day all together. We found Pentillie after being told about it by a friend, and once we investigated, there was never going to be an alternative venue for us - we believe things happen for a reason and we were meant to get married at Pentillie!

Often the aspect that makes a wedding original to the couple is the detail/theme – tell us about the special details of the day and how you implemented them (colours, theme decorations, centre pieces, favours, photo booths, DIY etc).

We wanted our day to be a relaxed and enjoyable affair for all, as well as being special to us. Our biggest thing was having all the people we love share our day with us. We both love Spring, and this was the reason chose a March wedding, and Becky loves daffodils so we knew that they would be in flower at that time. Our original date was the anniversary of when we met. We wanted the day to have an element of fun and not to be too formal, so we had a caricaturist, the Pentillie lawn games, archery and a photo booth to entertain the guests.

Were you inspired by anyone on social media? Pinterest/Instagram etc? To be honest, no.

Please give a brief account of your wedding planning story i.e., priorities, highs & lows, challenges etc…

We booked our original venue in 2018 with a view to get married at the end of March 2020. Unfortunately, seven days before the day, the first nationwide lockdown occurred. We rebooked for later in the summer, only again to have our plans take a severe blow when we were contacted by the venue to state they would be selling the property. It was fate and good fortune that we then discovered Pentillie. Some things are meant to be!

What food did you choose for your day, wedding breakfast and evening buffet, and why?

We wanted food that everyone could enjoy, and we were not disappointed. To start, we chose Jerusalem Artichoke Soup. This was then followed by Chimichurri Chicken thighs with Harissa & Paprika Potatoes and Rocket Garnish or Stuffed Aubergine as the vegetarian alternative. To finish, we had Dark Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream. The evening buffet consisted of Pulled Pork, Salads and Focaccia.

What was the song for your first dance, and why?

We both love the film Labyrinth and chose “When the World Falls Down” by David Bowie, as it is special for both of us.

What was your favourite part of the wedding?

We were lucky enough to have a truly magical wedding and could not pick one particular moment which was more special than the rest … the whole day was special.

What was the most important investment for you? For example, food, drink, clothes, honeymoon?

The venue, photographer and all of the suppliers who contributed to our special day were all as equally important and we could not be more grateful for all the hard work that was put into our day.

What is your top tip for other couples?

When things don’t go to plan, just take a bit of time to regroup and rethink as everything happens for a reason. In our case, it certainly did!
