Tell us how you met…

We were set up by friends! Warren’s friend from his university married one of Jenn’s friends from her university. Jenn reconnected with that group of friends at a wedding and the said, “you should meet our friend Warren,” and despite Jenn saying “no,” Warren added her as a friend on Facebook, and the rest is history!

How did your proposal happen (when and where)?

Warren was determined for the proposal to be a complete surprise to Jenn (and she is hard to surprise). On a beautiful Fall Day, at one of our favorite parks close to our home, we went on our typical Saturday morning walk. While standing next to the lake, Warren said, “why don’t we take a family picture here?” He knelt pretending to pull a dog treat out of his pocket for our dog, Aspen, but (much to Aspen’s dismay) instead of a dog treat he pulled out a ring! Jenn was so caught off guard the first things she said were “are you serious?” and “thank you” before she said “yes!”

What was your length of engagement?

A little bit over a year and a half

In three words, how would you describe your wedding day?

Magical, romantic, joyful.

What made you choose Pentillie Castle?

Considering that we live in the U.S., it was a bit surprising to some that we chose to get married at Pentillie, but made perfect sense for us! We spend a lot of time traveling and exploring new places and since we have family in Cornwall, we figured we might as well make an adventure out of our wedding! Once we decided that we wanted a destination wedding, Pentillie was the first place we checked out and made perfect sense. We loved that we could host some of our friends and family, the grounds are stunning and we loved that we could have a multi-day event.

Where did you take inspiration from for your big day? Pinterest/Instagram etc?

We were intentional to spend time reflecting and envisioning what we wanted each component of the wedding to look and feel like. To do this, we spent time journaling independently, then would confer and compare each other’s responses. Once we felt like we had a solid vision of what we imagined, we looked on Pinterest and Instagram for pictures that matched our vision to be able to communicate what we were looking for to our vendors.

What was the song for your first dance, and why?

Choosing a first dance song was one of the hardest decisions we had to make! We landed on the song “Forever” by Noah Kahan. Noah Kahan is one of our favourite artists and there are lyrics in this song that mean a lot to us and describe a bit of our relationship story.

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

Reading our vows to each other while standing in front of our friends and family, under the wisteria, feeling so happy and secure in our love, and excited for our future together.

Top tips for other couples?

First, choose Pentillie as your venue, it’s spectacular. Secondly, we hired most of our suppliers from the recommended list from Pentillie and they were all amazing and them already being familiar with the venue was incredibly helpful. Third, try to give yourself a bit of time before your wedding date to plan your wedding — it is a lot of work, far more than we anticipated, and if we didn’t have more than a year to figure it out, I’m not sure we would’ve gotten it all done!
