Tell us how you met…
We met in September 2020 during the Covid 19 Pandemic in a London that was undergoing on and off lockdowns. With thanks to Hinge for allowing us both the chance to swipe right and then the eat out to help out scheme giving us the ability to actually meet in person and spend hours chatting away over a few sharing plates and cocktails. Our first date was over 5 hours long and it set the precedent for many more dates.
How did your proposal happen?
My [Reekesh’s] proposal was meant to be perfectly planned, but it turned into a chaotic, funny, and utterly memorable event. I’d secretly worked with Millie’s best friend to pick out the perfect ring, then carefully planned a trip to Madrid. I even found what I thought was the ideal spot; a quiet, private place with a lovely view, checking all the boxes for a romantic proposal.
But life, and her mother’s cold, had other ideas. A few days before we left, I visited her parents to ask for their blessing - an emotional moment that also passed on a nasty cold to me. So, on the day of the proposal, armed with cold medicine and the ring, I woke up to a torrential downpour that caused floods. The beautiful park I’d chosen was now a muddy wasteland, and daylight was fading fast.
Our fancy dinner reservations, meant for celebrating, unexpectedly became the stage. We walked in soaked and shivering, just wanting to relax. Instead, I handed my phone to a startled waitress, whispered “record this, please,“ and got down on one knee. As I opened the ring box, the ring promptly fell out! Millie’s immediate reaction was a big laugh, followed by a quick and definite “yes.“ She then grabbed the ring and put it on her finger herself. It was far from my perfect plan, but it was perfectly us.
In three words, how would you describe your wedding day?
Picturesque, Perfect and Fun!
Just some more detail because Pentillie really did make our dreams come true! Our wedding day started as a stressful affair. Ever since finding Pentillie we dreamed of getting married on the lawn. With the rain being stop, start ever since we arrived on the Friday, it became a last minute decision, 20 minutes before the ceremony start time, in which both Bride and Groom made the emphatic choice to have it outside. We cannot thank the team enough for giving us the time to make the decision and allowing the set up to still work on such last minute notice. My word was it tense. But we got it right! The pictures are incredible, we cannot thank Rachael [Pentillie Castle’s Wedding Manager] and the whole Pentillie crew enough!
What made you choose Pentillie Castle?
Not being local to the area, we discovered Pentillie Castle in a wedding magazine. It immediately spoke to us as the perfect location. A quick phone call later and a booking to visit was all we needed to be certain. The first time driving into the Estate and seeing Pentillie in person, it was clear to us this was the location for our dream wedding.
Where did you take inspiration from for your big day? Pinterest/Instagram/Tiktok etc
Our main aesthetic goal was elegance and a touch of south of France, with a chateaux vibe, Pentillie in the sun with the river in the background ticked all our boxes.
What was the song for your first dance, and why?
We used ‘Feeling Good‘ by Muse. Perhaps an unusual choice but one we felt perfect for us. Because we really did feel good…and it was the shortest intro for a first dance we could find!
What was the highlight of your wedding day?
Emily’s favourite part was secretly watching me walk down the aisle and stand there nervously waiting for her. For me, it was seeing her dance the night away.
Top tips for other couples?
Delegate. You will be so overwhelmed and so busy you need to delegate to your key wedding party members. Best man, maid of honour, groomsmen and bridesmaids. They have skills, they are useful and they will be key on the day. Your wedding day is for you to enjoy, they are there to help make it happen.
Any comments?
Just that it was amazing. The team at Pentillie did everything in their power to make our wedding day as perfect as possible. They accomplished this with ease, both myself and my wife had the best day of our lives. Thank you!
